Art at Red Earth Trading Co.'s Pop-Up Store

Red Earth Trading Co. is an incredible company. Started by the non-profit Global Support Mission--which does some incredible work in several countries in Africa--Red Earth sells jewelry, home goods, and accessories that are handmade in other countries. The items they sell are purchased 100% direct trade, and the company is able to give back to artisans in other nations while helping to fund Global Support Mission.

Red Earth has recently opened a pop-up shop in Hillsboro Village in Nashville, and I have the privilege of having several pieces there, including some never-before-shown work. Located at 1817 21st Ave S, the store will be open through April 21. Hours are:

Monday-Thursday: 10-9
Friday-Saturday: 10-10 (with live music)
Sunday: 11-6

It's worth stopping by to see the store alone; it's a well-designed, beautiful space. And of course, their products are stellar and making a difference in the world.

Bunny Gunner Gallery's All U Can Eat Show

3 of my paintings--"Punch," "Orange Juice," and "A Little Water"--will be showing at Bunny Gunner's food-themed All U Can Eat show in Pomona, CA. The show opens February 11 for Pomona's 2nd Saturday Art Walk and will be up through March 3. Many great artists will be showing their work.

In early 2011, I started a new body of mixed media paintings, and after months of work, I'll be showing several of these pieces publicly for the first time. The work will all be for sale and will be up through the end of March. I'll be having an opening reception on Saturday, January 14th, and I'd love to see you there.

ART IN POMONA

One of my paintings, "The Permeating Sun,"will be displayed at Bunny Gunner gallery in Pomona, CA from this Saturday, February 12 through March 5, as a part of the gallery's show entitled "All U Can Eat." The opening reception is on Saturday from 6-11 as part of Pomona's 2nd Saturday Art Walk. It's sure to be a good time. If you decide to go, be sure to stop by the studio of Father Bill Moore, an excellent artist and a friend of mine.

AFTERLIFE PARADE

In 2010, I was asked to do the artwork for Afterlife Parade's EP entitled "Death," which released this past week. The cover image is a linocut I created specifically for this project, and I'm really happy with how this came out. Extra thanks to Jeremy Stanley for helping photograph the piece.

This is the first of two Afterlife Parade EPs that are parts of one concept, and I'll be doing the art for the second, "Rebirth," as well, creating the visuals in a similar manner. I'm aiming to have the two fit together aesthetically while reflecting the music in their respective EPs.

CHRISTMAS PRINTS

Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee releases a Christmas card each year to help their efforts of feeding the hungry. This year, I had the privilege of creating the artwork for the cards: a linocut of Union Station in Nashville, TN. You can purchase the cards and support Second Harvest here.

In conjunction with the cards, I made an edition of 15 linocut prints that match the artwork on the card. The prints are hand signed and hand numbered and printed on archival Rives BFK paper. They are available here.

CREMA

My art will be displayed and on sale at CREMA in Nashville for the months of September and October. I'm getting everything ready to hang tomorrow and am really excited about showing here. Great people, good vibe, and incredible coffee. Check it out if you get a chance.

WE ALL SCREAM

I have a couple pieces going up at the Bunny Gunner tonight for the gallery's 3rd anniversary show. A group show entitled "We All Scream," it features work centered around the theme of ice cream. There is some great art going up for this show; many of the pieces can be seen here.

Opening reception is tonight, July 10, from 6-11 pm. The show will stay up until August 10. Bunny Gunner is located at 266 W. Second St., Pomona, CA 91766.

YOU CAN'T BELIEVE IN NOTHING

I've had the privilege of doing a bit of work with the up-and-coming band Neulore. I've been really impressed by their music and live performance (check them out at www.neulore.com and www.myspace.com/neulore) and am very excited that they're using my work for one of their posters, which was designed by the band's drummer. Neulore is also taking a new approach to their merch table and will be selling some of my work at their shows.

Songs from the Journey

My church released several original songs as free downloads for Easter, and I got to help out with the artwork. I had a lot of fun with these, starting the process with really planned-out pieces and ending up ditching these for scrap paper off my work table. There was a vibrancy and life to these that wasn't coming through in my original ideas, and there's something to be said for taking what we consider waste or a by-product and turning it into something worth displaying.

Kind of like Easter.
